Three Lakes is a small community nestled amidst the 650,000-acre Chequamegon -Nicolet National Forest, known for its crystal clear lakes, abundant fisheries, trophy deer and an array of wildlife species.
Downtown Three Lakes provides the old-fashioned charm of a storefront community. Its main street is lit by antique looking lampposts and lined with unique gift shops, restaurants and other small businesses. Fall, winter, spring or summer; every season offers unique recreational opportunities and spectacular settings. Come spend time in our friendly town. The community’s greatest natural resource is the largest inland chain of lakes in the world, consisting of 28 interconnected lakes. The variety of lakes and channels within the chain provide endless opportunities for water skiing, wake boarding and boating as well as canoeing and kayaking. Fishing for sport or a fish fry, the chain of lakes has a variety of species including muskies, northern pike, bass and panfish. The Nicolet side of the National Forest offers spectacular opportunities for bicycling, hiking, birdwatching, photography, hunting, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
Three Lakes is also home to one of the largest and best snowmobile trail systems in the state stretching from downtown Three Lakes to the Michigan border to the north east and connecting with all of the surrounding communities. Northern Lights Snowmobile Club and Three Lakes Trails work to keep snowmobiliers safe on the trails and busy with wintertime events.
The Three Eagle Bike Trail begins in downtown Three Lakes and meanders through the scenic forest to the north connecting with Eagle River. Work is currently being done to connect all surrounding communities by trail for great hiking and biking opportunities.
The Aqua Devils Water Ski Club call Big Stone Lake home and have for many years. Ski-Shows are scheduled twice a week and provide some great entertainment.
New to the Three Lakes Community is the Three Lakes/Nicolet ATV Club. Three Lakes roads are now open to ATV & UTV’s. We connect with Forest County and beyond for some of the best ATV riding in the state. Check it out
