The variety of lakes and channels within the chain provide endless opportunities for water skiing, wake boarding and boating as well as canoeing and kayaking.  Fishing for sport or a fish fry, the chain of lakes has a variety of species including muskies, northern pike, bass and panfish. The Nicolet side of the National Forest offers spectacular opportunities for bicycling, hiking, birdwatching, photography, hunting, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

Three Lakes is also home to one of the largest and best snowmobile trail systems in the state stretching from downtown Three Lakes to the Michigan border to the north east and connecting with all of the surrounding communities. Northern Lights Snowmobile Club and Three Lakes Trails work to keep snowmobiliers safe on the trails and busy with wintertime events.
